Masters of Havana Cigars
The Higher Certificate, developed by Hunters & Frankau, represents the most extensive and challenging qualification within the world of Havana cigars. The exam covers all aspects of the Cuban cigar industry including the cultivation of the world’s finest tobacco, Havana cigar brands and vast array of vitolas (sizes). It also covers cultural and historical topics such as the US Trade Embargo and UK legislation. Candidates are also expected demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of how to recommend and serve Habanos. The exam is split into five sections.
Candidates must answer nearly 200 questions divided into five categories “Agriculture”, “Production & Presentation”, “Brands & Specialities”, “Vitolas” and “General”. Finally the candidates participate in an oral and practical exam in front of three members of the Hunters & Frankau Board of Directors, where their cigar knowledge is again tested to the full.
With a pass mark of 75%, only the most knowledgeable will be awarded the title of “Master of Havana Cigars” and those who are can certainly class themselves in an elite group.
