The Edward Sahakian Cigar Shop & Sampling Lounge at the Bulgari Hotel, Knightsbridge has won the Best Lounge award at this year’s Cigar Journal ceremony. Cigar Journal magazine holds an annual awards show and presents awards for cigar suppliers, retailers, producers brands and individual cigars. For the full list of winners, please click here.
Edward and Eddie Sahakian were joined by Mike Choi, the lounge manager, to accept the award in Dortmund, Germany.
Although the lounge opened as recently as 2012 it has, as the name suggests, Edward Sahakian’s peerless experience and exemplary vintage stock, to draw from.
The collection of rare and vintage cigars on offer at the Edward Sahakian Cigar Shop has been sourced exclusively from Edward Sahakian’s personal collection taken from the private humidified keeps at St. James’s.This makes it an ideal destination for occasional smokers and vintage enthusiasts alike.
The selection, available individually or by the box, includes rarities such as the Cuban Davidoff Dom Perignon; the Partagas No. 4 Reserve and the Cohiba Sublimes Ltd Edition 2004. The collection also includes well known classics such as the Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure No. 2, the Trinidad Reyes and the Romeo Y Julieta Churchill.
Designed by Antonio Citterio, Particia Viel and partners, the lounge is situated on the mezzanine level just off Il Bar in the heart of the Bulgari Hotel and Residences, London. Accessed up a discreet stairway clad with polished mahogany, the Cigar Shop contains lightly-coloured heat-treated oak humidors, displaying some of the finest cigars available for guests to purchase and try in the adjacent Sampling Lounge.
A state-of-the-art air replacement system silently maintains a clean air supply and gently draws the smoke from the cigars without producing any noticeable draft or breeze. This coupled with an air purifying system imported from Switzerland creates the perfectly balanced environment for fully enjoying cigars.
However, the technology is only half the story. What makes the lounge such a success, of course, is the atmosphere and the people. You can always be assured of a warm welcome, expert advice and great conversation. Congratulations to Edward and Eddie Sahakian and Mike Choi and Attila Szabo for creating such a wonderful and hospitable spot for cigar smokers to visit, to stay a while and to indulge themselves. A true oasis in the heart of Knightsbridge and long may it continue.
