Hunters & Frankau and Habanos S.A., hosted the World Launch of the Bolívar Regentes, a 2021 Habanos Limited Edition, in London on February 7th, 2024.

Hundreds of aficionados from across the world came together at Boisdale Canary Wharf for an evening of entertainment, excellence, and indulgence. All keen to be among the first to try this new cigar.

The famous Bolívar band, featuring a portrait of the 19th Century Venezuelan revolutionary Simon Bolívar, also world widely known as “The Liberator” and a crucial protagonist in the history of South America, is one of the most instantly recognizable of all Havana brands.

It was founded at the dawn of the 20th Century in 1902, some 70 years after the great man’s death, and first registered for sale in Great Britain where Bolívar had been a popular figure.

During his lifetime Simón Bolívar was known in Scotland as “The Wallace of South America”, after Sir William Wallace, so what better venue than Boisdale of Canary Wharf, a Scottish stronghold in the south, to introduce a cigar bearing his name.

In attendance were the great and the good of the UK cigar world, as well as international guests, including José María López Inchaurbe (Habanos S.A Vice President of Development) and Fernando Domínguez Valdez-Hevia, President and CEO of Tabacalera S.L.U.

Before being called for dinner, guests were treated to pre-prandial Hine Ball cocktails, Bollinger champagne, and Bolívar Petit Coronas on the cigar terrace.

Throughout the meal, Cuban band Sambroso All Stars supplied a little Cuban flavour to a wonderful menu created with of the best of British ingredients.

Pipe Major Willie Cochrane – former Pipe Major of one of Scotland’s most famous Regiments, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, then piped the new Bolívar Regentes into the room in an unforgettable moment.

After a short video, Jemma Freeman (Hunters & Frankau Executive Chairman) and José María López Inchaurbe formally introduced the cigar before inviting the exuberant audience to join them back on the terrace to light up and taste the latest Limited Edition from Habanos S.A.

On the terrace they were presented with glasses of the award winning Hine Cigar Reserve XO Cognac.

The Bolívar Regentes measures 5 1/8” (130mm) x 52 and is known as a Discretos in the world famous cigar factories of Cuba. They are presented in Special Production slide lid boxes containing 25 cigars.  It was originally intended as a 2021 release and is the 4th time that the brand has been given the honour of producing an Edición Limitada for Habanos.

As one would expect from a cigar brand named after such a powerful figure, all the vitolas produced within its range are rich and full bodied.

It is simply one of the most powerful and commanding brands within the Habanos S.A. portfolio, and it is precisely these traits which make it one of the most sought-after marques.

The cigars are all made “Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga” – Totally handmade with Long Filler. The carefully selected wrapper, binder and filler leaves have all come from the most prestigious zone, Vuelta Abajo, in the region of Pinar del Rio, Cuba. They have also been aged in bale for a minimum of two years before being rolled.
