Three new Masters of Havana Cigars

There are three new Masters of Havana Cigars working in the UK having passed the first Higher Certificate exam to be held in two and a half years.

Covid restrictions forced the exam process to be paused and this was the first test since September 2019.

Syafiera Rosidi and Róbert Tomko are cigar sommeliers in the cigar room of Annabel’s (a private members club) while Erik Simonics, who passed with distinction, is the Group Head Sommelier at Birley Clubs.

The Higher Certificate exam is considered to be the most formidable and comprehensive Havana cigar exam in the world.  It covers all aspects of the Cuban cigar industry including the cultivation of the world’s finest tobacco, Habanos brands and the vast array of vitolas (sizes) they produce. It also covers cultural and historical topics such as the US Trade Embargo and UK legislation.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of how to recommend and serve Habanos during a day long examination process divided into written and practical sectors.
