The dark arts of Partagás

News Back

Partagás, one of Cuba’s most famous cigar houses, has released a new cigar, the Maduro No.1. This latest addition to their range arrives after the 2011 releases of the Serie E No.2 and the Serie D No.5 as well as the 2014 introduction of the Serie D No.6.

However, it is the wrapper of this cigar that distinguishes it from all other standard Partagás and marks it out as something sure to wet the appetite of cigar enthusiasts around the world – they are all dressed with Maduro wrappers.

Maduro describes a very dark shade of wrapper leaf. The leaves are harvested from the top of shade grown tobacco plants and after air curing, natural fermentation and ageing, assume their rich, dark, oily appearance which adds a “top-taste” to the blend which many describe as sweet. It is also a completely new size for Habanos, measuring 5 ⅛” (129mm) x 52 ring gauge.

This is not the first time that Habanos s.a. has specifically dedicated Maduro wrappers to a vitola. In 2007 they launched the Cohiba Maduro 5 range in three sizes but it is new for Partagás and reflects a growing taste among cigar smokers for darker wrappers.

The Partagás Maduro No.1 remains faithful to the original Partagás blend, is classified as full flavoured and is presented in Semi Boîte Nature (SBN) boxes of 25. It is also dressed with a second, brown and gold identifying band.
