Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from all of us at the Cigar Smokers Club!

The previous twelve months have been hugely enjoyable for us at the Cigar Smokers Club. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and for making 2010 so much fun.

The year saw a huge increase in the amount of cigar evenings being hosted at clubs, bars, hotels, restaurants and specialist tobacconists across the UK. These events included everything from sit down cigar dinners to launch parties to cigar and drink pairings and, judging by the continued proliferation of outstanding Comfortable Outdoor Smoking Areas (COSAs), next year looks set to be even busier. The calendar of events, tastings, openings and cigar dinners, not to mention the next cigar roller’s tour, will all be listed on the events section of the site as soon as dates are confirmed.

We have also had the pleasure of receiving two exceptional cigar rollers this year. Anibal Delgado Gonzalez and Hamlet Jaime Paredez were here for three months each and managed to visit England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – rolling somewhere in the region of four thousand cigars along the way.

The new BHK line from Cohiba has been another big story of 2010. Supplies have remained tight and availability looks set to remain an issue due to the natural scarcity of the ‘Medio Tiempo’ leaf used as part of the blend for these remarkable cigars. The UK was the first country outside Cuba to launch these cigars and H&F have certainly tried very hard to secure their fair share of the overall Cuban production since its release.

The year also saw three outstanding Limited Edition releases along with the Romeo Y Julieta Wide Churchill and the UK Regional Edition, Por Larrañaga – Regalias de Londres. The release of the second Regional Edition, La Flor de Cano – Short Robusto and the standard issue Romeo Y Julieta – Julieta have been the subject of some delay and are now expected in the first part of 2011.

Sadly, this year also saw the loss of a true legend within the cigar industry. Don Alejandro Robaina passed away aged 91, surrounded by his family at home on his tobacco farm located in Cuba’s Vuelta Abajo region. The Vegas Robaina brand stands as a more fitting and lasting tribute to a true cigar man than anything we could add here. He is a big loss and will be truly missed by everyone who loves Habanos.

2011 looks set to build on the accomplishments of its predecessor. There are several exciting new COSAs being designed and built around the country, so it seems certain that cigar smokers are going to enjoy an even greater choice of places to visit and enjoy smoking Habanos. There are the delayed 2010 releases to look forward to during the early part of the year and Habanos SA have some exceptional plans for new releases over the summer months. But we are getting ahead of ourselves… Now is the time to sit back and enjoy the festive period with friends and family and, of course, a favourite Habanos

Have a great Christmas whatever your plans are and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
