Hunters & Frankau collaborate with British designers Linley to create exciting Humidor project

When the opportunity arose to work with the highly respected company Linley on a project to create a limited series of unusual and unique humidors inspired by Cuban cigars and their history – naturally we took it. Linley has a long established reputation for creating beautiful one-off pieces using rare and delicate woods from around the globe, and the result of our collaboration is a series of three humidors; El Laguito, Skyline and Cuban Flag.

Each humidor contains specially selected and often rare cigars from Hunters & Frankau and are available for cigar enthusiasts to purchase through selected Habanos specialists in the UK or the Linley shops in Belgravia and Mayfair.

The first in the collection is a detailed reproduction of the El Laguito factory in Havana, the home of the world famous Cohiba cigars.

We believe the El Laguito factory has never been reproduced in this way before and only one of these humidors will be made by Linley.

The main compartment of the humidor houses three lift out trays with capacity for approximately 195 cigars.

There are three secret compartments hidden within the structure – one hidden within the steps which houses cigar scissors and matches, and two either side of the building on ‘push catches’ ideal for storing special cigar bands.

There is one additional further drawer, the whereabouts of which will only be revealed to the final owner of this piece.

The cigars for this humidor have been carefully selected from Hunters & Frankau’s reserve as many are now very rare collectors items

There are 25 of each of the following cigars in the humidor, all Edicion Limitada, Limited Editions

  1. Cohiba Double Coronas (2003) (7 5/8” x 49)
  2. Cohiba Sublimes (2004) (6 ½” x 54)
  3. Cohiba Piramides (2006) (6 1/8” x 52)
  4. Cohiba Esplendidos Reserva 1999/2002 (7” x 47).

(The Tobacco harvest for these cigars was taken in 1999 but the cigar was not launched until 2002).

The humidor is constructed from sycamore with inlays of ripple sycamore, bird’s eye maple, burr oak, holly and Indian ebony with extremely delicate marquetry inlay work representing the detail of the factory itself.

The humidor has a recommended retail price of £39,950.

The Skyline Humidor is the second in the collection. This humidor contains 50 cigars and features the panoramic skyline of London in marquetry detailing around the box. A limited edition run of five are available and each humidor will be numbered. Veneers of cherry, Swiss pear, sycamore, walnut and wenge are used to recreate the city skyline to dramatic effect and set against a background of Macassar ebony.

Each humidor contains 50 Regional Edition cigars produced exclusively for the UK including the Ramon Allones Belicosos. This was the first Regional Edition ever produced by Habanos SA in 2004 and for this reason the cigars do not carry the second band which was only introduced the following year when the Regional Edition concept was officially launched.

Production of Regional Edition cigars is limited and in the case of the Ramon Allones Belicosos and Por Larranaga Magnifico these cigars are now no longer available in the UK market. For more information about the UK Regional Editions please visithere

The cigars included in this humidor are:

10 x Ramon Allones Belicosos (5 ½” x 52). Released in 2005, limited production of cigars.

The third and final humidor in the collection marks the bicentenary of the Cuban Revolution. Only fifty of the Cuban Flag humidors will be available and each one is numbered. The box features marquetry inlay depicting the Cuban national flag in ripple sycamore, satin walnut and Santos rosewood encased within walnut lippings. The box is distinguished by an undulating ‘ripple’ effect on the surface which evokes a flag fluttering in the wind.

The humidors contain the very first release of Hunters & Frankau’s 1999 Aged Habanos selection whereby all the cigars have been carefully aged in our warehouse for the last ten years and the rigorously checked by Cuban quality control technicians before being approved for inclusion in the range (for more information on Vintage and Aged cigars please browse our website
