Hunters & Frankau and Hine in partnership have released an elegant gift box containing a 20cl bottle of Hine Cigar Reserve Cognac and two tubed Romeo y Julieta cigars, the perfect gift for cognac and cigar enthusiasts.
The official launch party was held at Davidoff, St James’s, where guests were allowed a preview of the delicious pairing of these two superb products.
Bernard Hine and Nicholas Freeman, the late Chairman of UK Havana cigar importers Hunters & Frankau, combined their lifetime experience to produce a unique cognac especially created for cigar connoisseurs.
Hine Cigar Reserve is a powerful blend of more than 25 cognacs over 10 years old coming from four growths in the Cognac region: Grande and Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. Bernard Hine describes it as having: “An aroma of tobacco leaf, crystallised fruit, honey and a hint of wood. Well-balanced, liquorice, soft spices, very round and long on the palate”.
The Romeo y Julieta brand dates back to 1875 and takes its name from William Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers in his play that proved popular when read to cigar rollers in Havana’s factories. From then it has gone on to become the second most popular cigar brand today, behind Montecristo, last year accounting for around 14% of all Habanos sold in the UK (duty paid).
Jemma Freeman, Managing Director of Hunters & Frankau commented “The mellifluous and floral medium bodied Romeo y Julieta is rich enough to hold the attention when paired with this Cognac without ever overpowering it. Likewise, the Cognac’s aroma of crystallized fruit and honeyed sweetness frames the elegant vanilla nuttiness of this tubed cigar in a very satisfying and stylish way. The most rewarding pairings are those that bring out the best in each product without either one dominating the other. This finely balanced match elevates each product while delivering a rich, rewarding and extremely long finish.”
As the party went on long into the evening, the general consensus appeared to be that this was a timeless match and one that could be enjoyed over and over again…
