After a long wait, Diplomáticos Cancilleres, the newest addition to the esteemed Diplomáticos brand, has finally arrived in the UK.
Diplomáticos is a relatively recent Habanos brand, established in the 1960s. Its cigars are characterised by medium to full flavours and are made using tobacco leaves from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba. The brand’s original portfolio featured sizes closely associated with those of Montecristo, including numbered vitolas and a similar flavour profile. Over the years, however, the range was significantly reduced, with four of its five original vitolas discontinued. For many years, Diplomáticos No. 2 remained the only vitola in regular production.
Although Diplomáticos has been selected on several occasions for Regional Edition releases, Cancilleres (5⅛” / 130mm x 50 ring gauge) represents the first addition to the brand’s permanent portfolio in many years, marking an important new chapter in the evolution of Diplomáticos.
The name Cancilleres derives from the Spanish word “Canciller”, the highest diplomatic rank. In Cuban cigar factories, this size is known as Centrofinos and falls within the Robusto family of vitolas. Like all premium Habanos, it is totally handmade using long-filler tobacco.
Diplomáticos Cancilleres delivers the brand’s characteristic flavour profile through a complex and evolving smoking experience. Its aromatic character develops from distinctive woody and floral notes towards richer leather and nutty nuances, before finishing with a subtle earthy character.
Presented in the traditional 25-cigar dress box, Cancilleres combines an elegant format with an enjoyable smoking time of approximately 40–45 minutes. It is an excellent choice for aficionados seeking a balanced, and characterful Habanos — a welcome new addition to the Diplomáticos family.
