Cohiba Behike Launch Party Review
The UK became the first market outside of Cuba to enjoy the new Cohiba Behikes when Hunters & Frankau hosted an official launch party at London’s Goring Hotel on Wednesday 12th May.
On arrival guests received a gift bag containing a Rey del Mundo Choix de L’Epoque (UK Regional Edition 2009), two Cohiba BHK 52s and one each of the BHK 54 and BHK 56 along with a cutter and matches. Krug Champagne, Belvedere vodka cocktails and Hennessey XO Cognac flowed freely throughout the evening, and could be matched with chocolates produced by Damian Allsop especially to complement the drinks and cigars on offer.
A five-piece Cuban band brought some Caribbean warmth to what was otherwise a somewhat chilly spring evening while Señor Anibal Delgado from Havana’s La Corona factory demonstrated the art of the Torcedor (cigar roller).
Over 150 guests from around the world attended including journalists, specialist retailers and aficionados. Sean Croley, H&F’s General Manager of Sales & Marketing, said “We were delighted with the response to the evening. The champagne was delicious, the setting magnificent and most importantly, the Cohiba Behikes lived up to our expectations”.
Jemma Freeman (H&F Managing Director) welcomed the guests then handed over to Simon Chase who talked about the history of the Cohiba and introduced the new Behike line to the audience. Click here for the text of Simon’s speech.
Chris Kilpatrick of the Cigar Box (Edinburgh) summed up the reaction to the new cigars when he declared the BHK 52 was: “The finest cigar I have ever smoked, and quite possibly the finest cigar I will ever smoke…”
Ajay Patel, owner of the UK’s sole Casa del Habano in Teddington added:
“WOW! What a great event and evening… We loved it, as did the guys who came with us”
The final word must go to Jemma Freeman who spoke for everyone at Hunters & Frankau when she said,
“Despite the volcanoes best efforts we were delighted to have received the cigars in time to be the first country to launch outside Cuba, we were equally pleased it did not rain in the end but most of all it was a great pleasure to spend an evening with so many cigar smokers clearly enjoying themselves and each others company together with Cuba’s finest cigars”
The Cohiba Behike Line is now available, in limited quantities, at most specialist tobacconists.
