Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill has opened The Churchill Bar & Terrace in Portman Square, London. This exquisite bar has the addition of a brand new terrace that seems sure to become a firm favourite among cigar smokers.
Seating 72 guests – 46 in the bar and 26 on the year-round heated terrace – and serving a menu of classic cocktails and fine cigars, it is open until 2am (1am on the terrace) and is set to secure its status as a destination bar in London.
Interior designers, Bespoke have created an elegant and inviting space with subtle references to a young Churchill and his beloved wife Clementine including; art, travel, animals, champagne, cigars and whisky.
The pièce de résistance is a specially commissioned life-size bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill by renowned American sculptor Laurence Holofcener which will take centre stage on the private terrace. This is not the first time Holofcener has cast Churchill, the bronze statue ‘Allies’ of the former Prime Minister and Franklin D Roosevelt – is a much loved feature on Bond Street.
Cognacs & Armagnacs will play a big part on The Terrace and will be accompanied with a menu that is carefully selected to match particular cigars with luxury dark spirits, such as: Ron Zacapa 23y old Castarede, Vintage Bas Armagnac 1969, Herradura Selection Anejo, Hine Cigar Reserve Cognac, Laphroig Triple Wood, Havana Club Selección de Maestros.
The concept with the drinks menu is ‘Best of British’ and the Cocktail and Long Drinks on offer are steeped in classics with a truly British legacy.
The Champagne & Wine menu includes several premium wines and, of course, Winston Churchill’s favourite tipple – Pol Roger will be available.
