The first finalist in the Boisdale UK Cuban Robusto Championship 2025 has been found, and attention now turns to the second half of the draw to find its opponent.
Boisdale Canary Wharf began the search for the UK’s most popular Cuban robusto back on the 30th April when it held the first heat of the competition. Every month guests get together on the cigar terrace and, guided by representatives of Hunters & Frankau, blind taste two Havana cigars. They receive a cutter and lighter gift pack and are provided with two tasting forms, based on those used by the catadores (tasters) in the factories of Cuba.
At the first tasting the Full bodied Bolivar Royal Corona came out on top against the light flavoured Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2.
May saw the Juan Lopez Selección No.2 vanquished by the Montecristo Open Master to set up a semi-final the Bolivar Royal Corona.
After two recounts the remained neck and neck, with the scores identical. The tie was decided by counting up how many times each cigar had been awarded maximum points on the various elements of the tasting sheets.
With this formula, the Bolivar Royal Corona carried the day and secured its place in the final.
The next two heats will be held on 30th July and 27th August, before the second semi-final on 24th September and the grand final on 29th October.
