Habanos S.A was awarded Cigar Producer of the Year on Monday 2 December at the seventh annual Cigar Smoker of The Year Awards Dinner, hosted by Boisdale of Canary Wharf.
Dolph Lundgren, actor, filmmaker and martial artist, was presented with the prestigious Cigar Smoker of the Year award and Daniel Marshall picked up the Lifetime Achievement award.
Giuliani Santilli (Arts Club) won Sommelier of the Year and Hunters & Frankau’s very own Jimmy McGhee carried off the award for Communicator of the Year.
The evening, hosted by author and food critic Tom Parker Bowles, saw two previous years’ winners in attendance – doyen of film industry James Cosmo MBE and political journalist and broadcaster Andrew Neil.
Also in attendance were professional boxer Luke Campbell MBE and presenter and model Jourdan Riane who performed At Last, a song by Etta James.
A charity auction spearheaded by Starsky & Hutch star David Soul to restore Ernest Hemingway’s 1955 Chrysler New Yorker convertible which was previously at the Finca Vigia Cuba, now the Hemingway Museum, raised £13,500 – more than fifty percent of the total sum required to bring the car to its original glory.
Boisdale owner, Awards founder and cigar connoisseur Ranald Macdonald commented, “I would like to think that the Boisdale Cigar Awards is second only in the cigar world to the Habanos Cigar Festival Dinner held every year in Havana.”
With a vast collection of fine, rare and introductory cigars and a list of over 1,000 bottles of whisky, Boisdale’s expertise in these fields has long been recognised. The Viña Carmen Cigar Smoker Awards Dinner 2019 gathered the greats of the cigar and celebrity world for an enticing evening that has become a fixture in the cigar smokers calendar.
Hunters & Frankau congratulate all of the winners, as well as the whole Boisdale team for a magnificent evening and look forward to much more of the same next year.
