Being able to share my knowledge with guests. It’s truly a privilege to work with Cuban cigars which has such a rich history and depth of product that is unparalleled in its charm.
Having worked as a wine sommelier, over time I was slowly exposed to the world of Habanos. For me, it was a natural transition, initially an exploration into something new has grown into a true love and appreciation.
Of course, a Romeo Y Julieta Wide Churchill that was smoked on an evening out with some fellow wine sommeliers, my first delve into the world of cigars.
Explore the full range that is available, be inquisitive and appreciate the moment. The journey of Habanos is one of amazing variety, take your time, but most importantly, enjoy.
A classic for me would be a San Cristobal La Fuerza, a lovely cigar with its delicate flavours while giving a wonderfully creamy texture. If I’m looking to treat myself, a Trinidad Fundadores would be my cigar of choice, beautifully balanced and delivered in an elegant and slim format. If the occasion calls for a richer smoke, a Cuaba Salomones, a double figurado that has great development throughout, a powerful cigar that lingers on your mouth. To pair, champagne will always be my beverage of choice (ideally with some age), fantastic for cleansing the palate.
Definitely, the breadth of knowledge I have gained and the confidence the Masters inspires has made conversing and recommending cigars to guests much easier.
