What do you enjoy most about working with cigars?

What I enjoy most about working with cigars is the social aspect. Among cigar lovers, a true fraternity naturally arises. It is very rewarding to create memorable experiences that make people fall even more in love with cigars. Every day brings a new challenge, and that is something I truly enjoy.

What first interested you in cigars?

I had my first Habano in the summer of 2007 and I immediately fell in love. Shortly after, I went to La Casa del Habano to explore more, and I was amazed by the variety of sizes and blends. That curiosity led me to discover what was behind each cigar, and one thing led to another. There is a saying: turn your passion into your work and you will never work a day in your life. That is exactly what happened to me. I began learning under the guidance of Juan Jesús Machín. Later, I hosted cigar experiences in the backyard of the National Hotel of Cuba, as part of the Cuban Sommelier Association collaborated with the Habanos Balcony Project, and eventually worked as Head Cigar Sommelier in Qatar before joining the UK cigar family.

Do you remember your first cigar?

Yes, I do. My first cigar was a Cohiba Siglo III, and it was the perfect introduction for me. I still remember that moment very clearly. Even though the market has moved toward larger ring gauge cigars, my personal passion remains with the more classic, old-school vitolas.

What is the best piece of advice you have for someone just starting to smoke cigars?

Enjoying a cigar is one of the most satisfying sensory experiences. My advice for someone just starting is to try as many different cigars as possible so you can discover your own palate and understand which cigars suit different moments. It’s best to begin with milder cigars and gradually move toward those with more complex flavors and aromas. Most importantly, learn alongside experienced people who can guide you. If you do, you will discover a world that can easily become a lifelong passion.

What are your favourite three cigars?

My top three cigars would be, without a doubt Cohiba Siglo III, which is my everyday smoke and if there is only one to pick it will be this. Romeo y Julieta Churchill, a very elegant cigar and the one I most enjoy sharing with friends. And Trinidad Fundadores, which for me represents the perfect balance between an old-school style and a modern classic.

Has becoming a Master in Havana Cigars helped you in your profession?

Becoming a Master is truly a dream come true for me. Before coming to London, I made my first attempt to enter the Master program, and since then my perspective on cigars has completely changed. It has deepened my appreciation, knowledge, and respect for the craft. I believe this is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my journey as a cigar sommelier in the UK.
