What do you enjoy most about working with cigars?

The aspect I enjoy most about working with cigars is the product itself. Cigars are not just items for consumption; they are steeped in history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance. Each cigar tells a story through its blend, construction, and even its aroma. Working with cigars allows me to engage daily with these rich traditions, making every interaction with them a unique and rewarding experience.

What first interested you in cigars?

My interest in cigars began out of necessity. I found myself in a position where I had to work with cigars, despite knowing nothing about them. This sparked a curiosity in me, and as I started to learn more—through books and countless Google searches—I discovered that the world of cigars is as rich and complex as that of wines. This journey of discovery led me to try my first well-conditioned cigar, and from that moment, I was charmed. It was the depth of the culture and the intricacies involved in the cigar world that truly captured my interest.

Do you remember your first cigar?

Yes, I vividly remember my first cigar, though it wasn’t the most pleasant experience. It was a Partagas D4 that a friend had gifted me, but unfortunately, it had been stored improperly and was dry and crumbling. The taste was terrible, and the cigar fell apart halfway through, which nearly put me off cigars for two years. I often share this story to emphasize the importance of proper cigar storage and the vital role that guidance and education play in ensuring a good cigar experience, especially for newcomers.

What is the best piece of advice you have for someone just starting to smoke cigars?

My best advice for someone just starting to smoke cigars is to seek advice and guidance from someone knowledgeable. Cigar smoking is an art, and having a mentor or a knowledgeable guide can significantly enhance your experience. They can help you navigate through the vast selection of cigars and educate you on the nuances of cigar smoking, from choosing the right cigar to understanding how to properly enjoy it.

What are your favourite three cigars?

Choosing favorites is always difficult, but if I had to pick, my top three from regular production would be the Partagas E2, Hoyo Double Corona, and Trinidad Fundadores. Each of these cigars offers a unique experience, combining rich flavors, complexity, and the craftsmanship that makes cigars such a pleasure to enjoy.

Has becoming a Master in Havana Cigars helped you in your profession?

Absolutely. Becoming a Master in Havana Cigars has been incredibly beneficial for my profession and financially. The knowledge and mentorship I received while studying for the Masters has been invaluable. Additionally, the friends I’ve made with industry and the educational events I’ve attended have exponentially improved my knowledge and skills. This journey has not only enriched my professional life but also deepened my appreciation and understanding of cigars
